Why This Paper Matters for Sequenzo

Rowold, Struffolino, and Fasang show how sequence-analysis typologies can be combined with Kitagawa-Oaxaca-Blinder decomposition to separate two descriptive components of group inequality:

  1. Differences in the distribution of life-course patterns across groups.
  2. Differences in returns to similar life-course patterns.

Sequenzo's SA-KOB functions follow this logic by taking cluster labels from sequence analysis, constructing the decomposition design, and reporting cluster-level composition and returns components.
